Sunday School Classes

I am the Sunday School teacher at Aley Family Worship Center. Our class is very small at this time but I know it will grow eventually. This is all good because I am growing as well! Each time I do a class I find myself learning and growing in my maturity in Christ. I am very new to teaching a class and it is a responsibility I do not take lightly and I feel honored that I am being allowed to do this. Next week, Sunday March the 3rd, I am going to teach on Christian Discipline. Discipline is something that is sorely lacking in Christians today. I include myself in that statement and know for sure that I need this study and when I say study I mean that I need to put it to action in my life. Many people study the Bible but they never put it into practice. I am guilty of doing that especially on this subject. Some may say I am a bit too transparent, "my husband", but I feel honesty is the best policy and also I want others to understand that I do not teach from a lofty position. I teach from the position of a disciple of Christ which is actually a student.

We are all life long students when we actually choose to become active disciples of Christ. I underlined the word active because many are not active disciples. (Notice also that the word disciple and discipline are closely related.) Jesus called us all to be disciples;

Matthew 28: 16-20 The Great Commission:

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Discipline according to the "Dictionary of Bible themes" is; "Loving and corrective training that leads to maturity and responsibility on the part of those who experience it." When we submit ourselves to the Word of God and allow Him to work in and through us to help us grow in every area of our lives we will find more meaning in life. We will also find that as a result of our personal growth we will have a greater and more positive impact on the people that we encounter every day. Last but most importantly we will find that we are growing closer to God and because of this He will use us more. I feel God using me even as I am typing this post. Things I haven't thought of before are coming to me like a flood.

So with that being said I would like to invite you to join us Sunday March 3, 2019 at 9:30 AM to study God's word and what it says about discipline. I am praying that this study will draw us closer to God as we dive into the word and hunt for the treasures that He has hidden from those that do not choose to follow Him. "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field." Matthew 13:44
